The Lake is a fresh water lake found in the rift valley and is located in Baringo District, a semi-desert area. The lake lies in the solitude of the semi desert, a haven of peace and beauty in harsh, rugged by majestic surroundings. Its beauty derives as much from an overwhelming sense of repose with nature as its scenic dist. On the lakeshores are villages inhabited by the II CHAMUS [Njemps] community; who live by an unusual mixture of fishing and livestock herding breaking the taboo on the eating of fish, which is a norm among paternalists.
