TSAVO EAST AND WEST NATIONAL PARKS

[21,283sq km – 8,183 sq miles] Covers the biggest area in Kenya, located in the Southern Region

The park comprises a diversity of habitants, open plains alternating with savannah bushes and semi-desert scrub; acacia woodland, rock ridges and outcrops. The park lies roughly halfway between the Coast and Nairobi. Most of the Park is made up of basement gneisses & schist’s but part of the western sector is of recent volcanic origin, including Chyulu Hills extensions.

These volcanic zones also contain the famous Mzima springs, where millions of gallons of sparkling crystal-clear water gush out everyday from below a lava ridge. Hippos and shoals of barbell live in the springs and provide a dramatic spectacle. Countless numbers of different birds are found also here.
